 Because OW MY EMOTIONS-

Largely under a readmore for reasons, but anyways.

So in the canon of Aslla-Jack's world, things are already fairly shitty; after Yuusei died and Kiryu was arrested the already broken half of the team shattered further, with Jack basically secluding himself from anything for fear of having to watch a repeat, and Crow attempting to forget about it and in the end 'live for Yuusei' so as to cope.

And then the Dark Signers happened.

Now, in the canon of the series- 'Black and Blue'- Jack's notably lacking a chunk of canon temper and Crow a fair bit of his mischief streak. They're both already seriously affected by the events of those years prior, particularly since, when Kiryu revived as a Dark Signer and (unbeknownst to the others of course) revived Yuusei through Ccapac-Apu, the entire facility he was imprisoned in exploded.

...This was within three months of his arrest, and kinda hard to miss, so both Jack and Crow were very much under the impression that Kiryu died. That same day in fact, Crow would encounter the fire that took Pearson's life, with Bolger barely saving the kid from killing himself in attempt to save him in fact. It's a MESS.

Dark Signers happens, and Kiryu appears before Jack; Jack becomes close to Carly, Carly 'dies'. Jack thus vows to target the Giant- the one Dark Signer whose identity he knows, and the only one he can assume would have 'killed' her, an ironically inaccurate assumption. Crow in the meantime, having evacuated his kids to Martha's, ends up offering and demanding to help with the tower hunt. They all head in different directions, with Crow targetting the furthest.

Crow encounters Yuusei first. He's forced to duel him, and is given Stardust after defeating the 'god', who lays dying on the ground. Kiryu appears, and uses the 'last resort' Ccapac-Apu offered him, a ploy that the God had in mind all along- he binds himself and Yuusei to the card, thus 'absorbing' his essence and soul into his collective. This means that Yuusei's soul can be used as a beacon by medium, itako, etc... ...While still giving Ccapac an escape line if he dies now. Crow, after watching this binding in horror, is forced to face Kiryu. And in battling Kiryu, 'opens' his eyes, after first watching the summoning of Ccapac-Apu twist and mutiliate his deceased friend into the Giant itself. The realization of what he's done shatters Kiryu- Kiryu loses, and Crow watches as the second of his 'revived' friends die.

This is about where it 'ended' in Black and Blue. After this, Crow would move on to re-group with the others and things would go similar to canon. However halfway on this trip in Aslla Jack's world, and suddenly he'd find himself with the wings. And he would know this was Jack's mark, and he would be determined to push the thought of what this meant from mind, because no one wants to think about that. And then Jack shows up in a state not unlike Yuusei was in, with Carly in tow, and the only comfort he is allowed to have is that Jack isn't being forced to fight him, that Jack has somehow overpowered the god Aslla Piscu entirely.

Yet the fact remains, he's now the last of the four. And then at the final battle, Carly's revived on the spot as the Signer of Wings, Jack allowing their bond to sever more than willingly, and Crow himself is given the head. Does he deserve that honor? He's 'killed' half his friends, and he's seen so many more die- he's tired. Exhausted even.

Death, in any way, is not something Crow can accept any longer; not after watching so many die literally before his eyes. Even the most vile of crimes in his opinion should be punished through an alternative method, he simply cannot bear the thought of killing someone in vengeance. It actually hurts him to think of it for so much as a split second.

And true Jack is there, but Jack has also absorbed all of the millions of years worth of memories from Aslla Piscu, including anything shared from the Earthbound other than himself. It doesn't change his personality, but his response to them does; he becomes even more morose than he already became in the face of Yuusei's death, hiding even more of himself behind a facade of a mask, because frankly if he even scrapes the surface of the memories Aslla Piscu has, he feels nauseous.

And there is no barrier between himself and the other Earthbound in his sleep. When he sleeps, his dreams are filled with all the words and laughs of the other Earthbound as they torment and tear Yuusei apart, with his own mental shouts largely forgotten and ignored amid the swarm. Jack is being forced to watch as his best friend degrades into less than even a shadow of himself, and he cannot tell anyone; because as someone who can't do anything but watch, to bring anyone to that level is worse. So he flies out early in the morning and douses himself in ocean water in an attempt to clear his head. And he tells himself that in the end, it was just a dream.

It was all just a dream...
